A Sip of WineSpirit #178

(In celebration of WineSpirit Holiday Party Dec. 6, 2009)

Who Holds the Horn of Plenty?

Paul Wagner has gifted WineSpirit programs with his teaching of the ancients and their usage of wine. One memory is of the power of the chalice, at meals and banquets, i.e. the Greek Symposium.  Whoever held the goblet held the microphone, as Paul put it; only that person had the right to speak to the assembled.  What power did that cup hold? The power of blessing!

Your glass of wine, upheld for a toast, brings blessings to the surface…cherishing and celebrating delicious moments…wonderful things to speak of …the love in your heart….and gratitude…to be here now…and the joy of good company, shared food, and wines and beverages to enjoy…making everything taste better…precious memories…in the making.

Does the power of the goblet originate in the blessings contained in the cornucopia, the horn broken off of the goat Amalthea by Zeus, who in apology rendered it into a Horn of Plenty for all who possessed it?

May your chalices, goblets and glasses be transformed into Cornucopia, your Horn of Plenty…that your life be filled with whatever fruits you desire…that you be blessed with abundance…to enjoy and to share…bringing new and renewed blessings to life!

In introducing this Sip at the WineSpirit Holiday Party of December 2009, may each of you here today, as fruits, flowers, blossoms and blessings, fill this special gathering place as a Horn of Plenty, holding us all…a Horn made holy by each of us and all of us…that blessings abound…in the good you do…to bring them to life!

REFLECTION QUESTIONS FOR SIPPIN’:

1.      What blessings and people belong in your Horn of Plenty?

2.      What do you enjoy most about holiday parties, or any, in particular?

3.      What, if any, facets of tradition associated with wine and toasting do you find alluring or annoying?

4.                                                                               (Raise your own question… as you are invited to do in Sippin’ on Top of the World)
