How Can Wonderful Things Happen When Plans Go Awry?

We were looking forward to hosting an author event for David White in celebration of the publishing of Sippin’ on Top of the World. As it turns out, we received too few RSVPs for the date we had scheduled, so we sent notice out that we were postponing the event until the early part of the coming year.

Meanwhile, in bringing to light the true meaning of WineSpirit, one person, not having seen the notice that the program had been cancelled, showed up at our house at the originally scheduled time on Sunday afternoon.

Fortunately, it was a friend whom we haven't seen in a very long time. Of course, the house was a total MESS as I took that afternoon to clean out my linen pantry, do laundry, the beds not made, kitchen a disaster, paperwork all over the office.

Our friend owns Vintner's Collective, and, so, we invited him in for a glass of wine anyway, in our sweats, no makeup, just whatever.

Well, in true "Sip" spirit, we had the NICEST time visiting with him. We just sat and talked and talked, catching up on our lives… he hadn't yet seen the house we had recently moved into, so he was excited. He stayed for quite a while. We had a nice bottle of wine together and just really visited like the old days, when people actually did that, before text messages, Facebook, or emails.

After he left, it was quite late, so Mark and I went out to dinner. (Something we RARELY if ever do). It felt like we were on vacation, just sitting up at the bar at Jeanty, having wine and eating.

The friendship with our friend Garret was re-solidified, and, so you see, even when there is no formal event, WineSpirit takes over!

REFLECTION QUESTIONS FOR SIPPIN’:

1.      When did something unexpected turn into a wonderful memory?

2.      How did you/would you handle it when a friend visits unannounced?

3.      What part does spontaneity and flexibility play in the way things go in your day?

4.                                                                               (Raise your own question… as you are invited to do in Sippin’ on Top of the World)
